course overview
This course is for those who require skills maintenance training to perform rescues from live low voltage (LV) apparatus and provide CPR in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This course does not include rescues from overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. This course is nationally recognised and is a requirement for licenced electrical workers.
learning outcomes
The course covers the following topics:
• Legislation overview and duty of care
• Employer and employee obligations
• Identify and control hazards and risks
• Identify electricity isolation points
• General principles of low voltage rescue
• Use and maintenance of rescue kits
• Low voltage rescue procedures and removing the victim.
• Recognising the need for treatment of victims, burns, bleeding and CPR
• Performing CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines including
o managing the unconscious, breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise
o managing the unconscious, non-breathing adult, including:
▪ performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
▪ following the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock
▪ demonstrating a rotation of single rescuer operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
▪ responding appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
▪ handing over to emergency services
▪ providing an accurate verbal report of the incident
▪ reviewing the incident
• managed, in line with ARC guidelines, the unconscious, non-breathing infant, including:
o performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
• Securing the incident scene
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants must:
• Provide a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and UETDRRF004 Perform rescue from a live LV panel or equivalent
• Provide photo I.D on entry
• Unless exempt, provide a verifiable USI number
• Be physically fit and healthy with capacity to perform manual tasks
• Be able to read, write, communicate orally, and understand and interpret complex information and situations
• Interact with others and work under pressure
• Dress appropriately i.e., long sleeve, long pants or overalls, safety boots/closed in shoes, safety glasses

Please ensure you inform the training team on registration, if you fail to inform the training team at registration, learning support may not be available on the day of training.

This course is delivered over half a day and consists of classroom-based theory learning with practical based activities.

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation This has been included in the course delivery and assessment will occur prior to assessment of UETTDRRF04 Perform rescue from a live LV panel.

On successful completion participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

skills maintenance
To ensure your skills and knowledge are maintained it is critical you undertake regular skills maintenance training. Where there is no licence or legislated expiry the industry standard for skills maintenance is every two (2) years. The Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines recommend retraining in CPR at least annually.
